Driving Directions to the Cottages:

Directions to Cyffdy from Bala
(For Poachers Pocket, Stable Nook, Beudy Brics and Shippon Roost)

7 minutes by car.

Coming out of Bala on the A494 and heading for Dolgellau, Bala Lake is on the left. Follow the main road for about 1.5 miles until you come to Llanycil Church on the left, opposite a right hand turning for Parc. Take this turning and follow the lane uphill, along the level then downhill. On the downhill, you pass a crash barrier on the right, and the entrance to Cyffdy is on the right immediately as the crash barrier ends. Follow the driveway up into the Courtyard, and the Main House is straight ahead.

 

Directions to Hysbysfa from Bala

Coming out of Bala on the A494 and heading for Dolgellau, take the first right hand turning into Stryd y Fron, which is signposted for Bala Golf Club. Follow the road uphill, past the entrance to the Golf Club and over the hill. On the downhill, Hysbysfa can be seen set back from the road to the right. Continue for about 100 metres until just before a detached bungalow on the left, the gate for Hysbysfa is set into the hedge. Please note that both field gates to the cottage must be kept closed at all times as there are sheep in the surrounding fields.

 

Directions to Glynrhedyn from Bala

Coming into Bala on the A494 from the A5, at the beginning of the High Street turn left onto the B4391, signposted for Lake Vyrnwy, which skirts the top end of Bala Lake. As the road sweeps uphill, turn right following the signs for Lake Vyrnwy, into Rhosygwalia. Having passed (slowly) through the village, the road turns sharp left over a stone ,bridge, but continue straight ahead through the “No Through Road” sign. Pass the Outdoor Education Centre, and follow the lane for about ½ a mile. The entrance to Glynrhedyn is on the right immediately after the white bungalow set side-on to the road. Please note that despite a cattle grid, the gate to Glynrhedyn must be kept closed at all times due to extremely athletic and cunning sheep and cattle! Follow the private road down and over the bridge, parking in the orchard at the foot of the steps to the house.

 

Directions to Bwthyn Meini from Bala
Journey Time: 9 minutes by car

Coming out of Bala on the A494 and heading for Dolgellau, the Lake is on the left. Follow the main road for about 1.5 miles and take the right hand turning for Parc (2.5 miles), which is opposite Llanycil Church. Follow the lane uphill, along the level and downhill, (passing Cyffdy) into the village of Parc. Take the first right turning for Arenig, and travel along the lane uphill and out of the village for approximately 1 mile. As the road turns sharply to the right, leave the road by continuing straight ahead and follow the small lane sign posted for Tyddyn Ddu. Follow the lane for about ¼ of a mile and turn left for Meinihirion, there is a green post box set into the wall on your right hand side as you turn. This is a single track road, leading to Meinihirion and Bwthyn Meini. Please ensure that the gate to the property is kept closed at all times as there are sheep in the surrounding fields.

Coming from Oswestry:
Coming into Chirk from Oswestry on the A5, take the left turn on to the B4500 for Glyn Ceiriog. On entering the village, turn right at the school which is on your right, and the road seems to double back. Take the 2nd left turn at the letterbox, the road takes you through a farmyard and up the hill. Pass the white cottage on the left and the road levels out, after which you will see a pull-in on the right which has Pant Ddu engraved into the stone wall. This is the name of the owners home, park here and walk up the path to let them know you have arrived.

Coming from Llangollen:
From the A5 traffic lights in Llangollen, turn right at the Grapes public house, signposted for Plas Newydd National Trust House. Follow the road uphill, past houses and the school. Opposite the school playing fields there is a right hand turning, take this and follow the road uphill steeply for a couple of minutes until you come to a T junction. Turn right, then take the 2nd left for Glyn Ceiriog. The steep, narrow lane twists sharply, travelling downhill, and you will come to a pull-in on your left, with the name Pant Ddu engraved into the wall. This is the name of the owners home which is next door to the cottage. Park here and walk up the path to let them know you have arrived.
